Atlantic ferry flight routes.

The following are typical Atlantic ferry flight routes, provided for illustration purposes only. Please consult the North Atlantic IGA manual and current charts for flight planning. The airspace between FL 285 and FL420 is North Atlantic MNPS, and from FL290 to FL410 is RVSM airspace. HF radio is required on most routes.

The more direct route from Goose Bay via Narsarsuaq (BGBW) and Keflavik (BIKF). The longest leg is 676 nm from CYYR to BGBW, but if you have to go to an alternate Nuuk (BGGH) is 251 nm and Sondre Stromfjord (BGSF) is 378 nm from Narsarsuaq. HF radio is required between CYYR and BGBW, except on some routes above FL250.

UPDATE: Transport Canada now requires HF radio for all flights through Gander Oceanic airspace, IFR or VFR. The formerly permitted practice of flying VFR below 6,000 feet without HF radio is no longer allowed. The only routes where non-HF aircraft are permitted is CYFB-BGSF or ABOVE FL250 CYYR-BGBW or Prince Christian Sund.

Far Northern Atlantic ferry flight route via BGSF

The far Northern Atlantic ferry flight route via Sondre Stromfjord (BGSF). The longest distance between airports is 520 nm (BIEG - EGPC, not considering Vagar), but from BGSF to BGKK is 339 nm without alternates, so if you have to go missed approach at BGKK you need to be able divert to BGSF or BIKF. HF radio is not required on this route.

This is a good Atlantic ferry flight route in piston engine aircraft such as Cessna, Piper, Mooney, Cirrus, etc. Airports are spaced close together and HF radio is not required. You have several other options for fuel stops along the way, such as CYVP, BIKF and BIRK. If your airplane has at least 800 nm range, you can safely fly this route without ferry tank.

Atlantic ferry flight route from Goose Bay direct to Keflavik (BIKF). The longest leg is 1,320 nm from CYYR to BIKF. This is a good Atlantic ferry flight route in many small to mid-size business jets such as Cessna Citations. HF radio is required.

Atlantic ferry flight route from Goose Bay via Iqaluit or Qikiqtarjuaq direct to Keflavik (BIKF). This is a good route if you're planning to overfly Greenland (closed on Sundays) but don't have sufficient range to go Goose - Keflavik direct. This is a good Atlantic ferry flight route in airplanes like a King Air. The longest leg is 1,026 nm from CYVM to BIKF.

CYVM at one time had some drums of avgas but they have disposed of their stock because it got too old.
